If you are welding with the short circuit metal transfer the gas should be the tri-mix 90% helium, 7 1/2% argon and 2 1/2% carbon dioxide. Or something similar with the high helium mix. The gas should be a helium/argon blend, with "Tri-Mix" (90%He, 7.5%Ar, 2.5%CO2) being the most commonly available gas, at least in the U.S.

Jun 07, 2013· I have used trimix mig welding, and unless you are doing really thick stuff with lots of amps, I find little difference. I use Argon/Co2 instead, its lots cheaper, for stainless. That machine will weld up to 1/4" or 3/8" just fine, without tri mix, and it really doesnt have the amps to .
